Facilities

Facilities available to UBBC members

UBBC uses facilities kindly shared with us by the Birmingham Rowing Club, storing our boats in their boat house and using their changing rooms etc. The senior members also train every weekend at Worcester from our boat house opposite the cathedral. UBBC also uses Nottingham's Holme Pierrepont Course, particularly in preparation for BUSA, and has recently created a fruitful relationship with Vesta RC to train on the Tideway.

The University of Birmingham Munrow Sports Centre offers all the necessary facilities required for training. The newly opened Cybex Suite is equipped with state of the art cardio-vascular and weight training equipment as well as a plentiful array of free weights. There are also numerous other local gyms available, and a swimming pool and athletics track next to the Munrow Centre.

Training

Development Squad training is done on Edgbaston Reservoir, a 900m stretch of water less than five minutes cycle from The Vale Halls of Residences. This is done on Wednesday afternoons and early mornings depending on the time of year. In the Summer, training on the Reservoir is done in the mornings and late afternoons daily.

Senior Squad training is regularly undertaken at Worcester on the River Severn. This idyllic 6k stretch is just 35 minutes away from the university by car (or minibus).

Club training sessions are held every Tuesday night in a sports hall on Campus. This involves a science-based Speed, Agility, Quickness Circuit.

The club's top oarsmen and women take advantage of the universities first class sports medicine facility - The Human Performance Laboratory.

In order to give Birmingham's athletes the support they deserve the Athletic Union also provides free Physiotherapy Support.

All Club members undertake regular ergometer, weights and alternative training.
